Super 20 - Week 11, 2012

Guess who is #1? Is there even a need to guess? Read on, nontheless..

20
-7
2w

The Rock
He choked on the microphone and got owned by Cena for a second straight week, but again Rock's sheer presence gets him into the Super 20 for another week.. just about.
19
new

Randy Orton
Even though Randy Orton has been given a mid-card feud with Kane for WrestleMania, his presence back on TV gives a main event feel that is missing when he is out injure.
18
new

Justin Gabriel
Justin Gabriel put on yet another fantastic match Heath Slater this week, this time on Superstars. The two former tag team partners have a great chemistry together in the ring..
17
new

Heath Slater
..but I just give the edge to Heath Slater, despite being the loser in the match. I've stated it before, but I think Heath Slater has a unique presence that could be utilised in the mid-card on Raw or Smackdown.
16
new

Teddy Long
While the past couple of WrestleMania's could be criticised for having a poor build-up in the mid-card, this years is different as Teddy Long and John Laurinaitis continue to provide one of the most entertaining feuds in the wrestling world right now. Of course I am on Team Laurinaitis, but Teddy Long always provides a laugh as well.
15
new

Jack Swagger
Taking two losses from Santino Marella this week, but putting on a great cage rematch on Smackdown after dropping the US title sees Swagger re-enter the Super 20. That, and his new hair.. more subtle hilarity from Swagger.
14
new

Daniel Bryan
"...and my undeniable sex appeal"
13
new

Mark Henry
Ok, so all he did was destroy Ezekiel Jackson in a squash match, but that's all we need from Henry to rebuild him as the monster he was in 2011.
12
-5
11w

Bully Ray
Calfzilla just being Calfzilla.
11
new

Drew Mcintyre
Simply here for beating the shit out of Hornswoggle on Smackdown. If I had not already written my Top 5 Hornswoggle moments article, I'm sure that would have made the cut.
10
new

Sonjay Dutt
I keep thinking Sonjay Dutt doesn't have much more to offer after his first couple of weeks in Ring Ka King, but still he continues to surprise me. Running around with his new golden wings was hilarious. I've said it before, but TNA needs to bring this guy to their main roster.
9
new

Santino Marella
Santino gets his Cobra-covered palm on the US buckle after getting massively over with the live crowds in the past couple of months, and a great match on Smackdown with Jack Swagger sees him rocket back into the prestigious S20 in ninth.
8
-6
2w

Jeff Jarrett
Double J debuted the RDX stable with a killer in-ring promo reminiscent of the good old days of Immortal or nWo, burning minutes of valuable TV time with self-indulgent, over the top antics.
7
+12
3w

Sting
The Insane Icon is back in full swing, talking to himself in the mirror and smearing paint all over his face, the classic Sting of yesteryear has returned.
6
new

Joseph Parks / Abyss
Abyss picks up points this week for taking the tag straps in Ring Ka King with Scott Steiner, but he propels in at number 6 due to the debut of his mysterious Joseph Parks character. Seemingly the antithesis of what Abyss was, the Joseph Parks character should be an intriguing storyline in the weeks to come.

5w

David Otunga
Otunga and...
4
-1
4w

John Laurinaitis
..Mr. Excitement can seemingly do no wrong, as both continue to burn hot streaks in the Super 20, finding themselves amongst the upper echelon of talent every week. Their dynamic has grown to the point they both compliment each other in their backstage segments and you can safely bet everytime they appear you're going to get a laugh. This is what mid-card wrasslin' should be about. John Laurinaitis especially killed it this week in his spandex gear and oversized trainers for his match with T-Lo.
3
+17
6w

Triple H
Still cutting some of the best promos every week right now, Triple H is making this match with Undertaker feel like the match for the real wrestling fans watching. The Metallica theme for the match is a sharp contrast to the other pop bullshit music used to promote WrestleMania.
2
new

Shawn Michaels
Though Triple H was great on the mic again, it was Shawn Michaels that really brought it this week, announcing himself as the special guest referee of the Triple H-Taker match. He has the ability, like Hunter and Taker, to really draw you in to a storyline.
1
n/c
4w

John Cena
Who else would be number 1 this week? Nobody else is coming close to what Cena is doing right now, even the aforementioned Shawn Michaels and Triple H. To get a crowd chanting "Tooth fairy" to one of the biggest wrestlers of all time set to appear in his first singles match for 8 years shows just how good Cena is on the microphone. Every week he is proving his naysayers wrong and showing he is even better on the mic than The Rock, when most expected him to fail. A significant milestone in the proud history of the Super 20, as Cena picks up his third #1 spot in a row!

Disclaimer: Don't be alarmed if you think the ratings are low, as all the ratings are on a strict scale, as to protect excellence.  A top calibre TV match, but with no backstory for example, will find itself around the 1.00-1.50 range.  This doesn't mean it was a bad match - it is just being compared to a 5 star match such as Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold's submission match at WrestleMania 13 - the measuring stick.

Top 5 WWE wrestlers who should be pushed after WrestleMania 28

As WrestleMania season is upon us, the annual host of big names have come to steal the airtime on Raw and Smackdown, with the likes of Undertaker, Triple H and The Rock all in action at the biggest wrestling event of the year. When the old timers all leave and April 9th rolls around, what batch of stars should be pushed up the card in the coming year?

5. Tyson Kidd
For the past couple of years since the split of the Hart Dynasty, Tyson Kidd has proven himself as one of the top singles workers in WWE, putting on excellent displays of technical wrestling almost every week on NXT and Superstars. While he may not have the charisma or the size to be a bonafide top star, it would be good to see him involved in longer matches on Smackdown or Raw, against the likes of Daniel Bryan and Chris Jericho. Even if was booked as a semi-jobber, he would still be able to put on some great and unique matches.

4. Heath Slater
Heath Slater is the perfect heel - funny, annoying and entirely hateable. His relaxed demeanor and long, straightened bright orange hair makes him stand out amongst the rest of the jobbers in WWE right now. His microphone work is funny and has great potential. Anyone in doubt should watch him on NXT every week and watch him shine when he takes to the microphone. Added to all that, Slater is a legitimately good wrestler, often putting on match of the week candidates with Justin Gabriel on the two web shows.. But of course, Slaters gonna slate..

3. Percy Watson
What WWE is missing right now is guys over the 6'4 range, with many of the new up and coming stars being lightweight wrestlers. Percy Watson has bags of charisma, a great athletic image and can go in the ring, as well as being half-decent on the microphone. It remains a mystery why this star has yet to receive a call up to one of the main rosters, when seemingly he has all it takes to be a huge star.

2. Randy Orton
A surprise pick you may feel, and a lot of people consider Orton to be "overpushed" - but can  you recall the last time Randy Orton was in a meaningful storyline? No, his feud with Christian last year does not count, as that feud was based entirely on Christian's quest for the World Heavyweight Title - Orton was just playing the part of the babyface. No, since Orton turned babyface he has not had one notable storyline or angle that people will remember. He gets criticism for being "Boring" from dumbfuck smarks online, but Orton is one of only two men in the WWE who are legitimate larger than life stars that will draw ratings (along with John Cena). Orton really needs to be brought back over to Raw after WrestleMania and pushed in a meaningful main event storyline with a top calibre star.

1. Cody Rhodes
If my idea of Orton going back to Raw and becoming one of the top stars comes to fruition, then Cody Rhodes is the man who should step up and take his place at the top of the Smackdown card. He has impressed for well over 2 years and every month looks more and more like a main event star waiting to happen. Having brought meaning and prestige back to the Intercontinental Title for the first time in years and a series of interesting mid-card feuds, Cody is ready to take the step up to the next level and become World Heavyweight Champion. The WWE has a lot of young guys ready to make it to the next level, but none more than Cody, who is the total package - great in-ring, great mic work, great look and character depth. A convincing heel who could some day turn babyface, Cody Rhodes is the future of the WWE.

Super 20 - Week 10, 2012

The Rock returned to Raw last Monday, how did he effect the rankings for the past week? Is Ring Ka King still popping numbers on the Super 20? Will Calfzilla make it 10 weeks in a row on the charts? Read on..

Triple H
Trips wasn't featured on Raw this week, but for an epic video package about his match with Undertaker last year - however a video that surfaced online of him pedigreeing The Miz during an ad break on Raw helps him remain on the prestigious Super 20 for a 5th consecutive week.

Sting
It's showtime!

Jazzy Lahoria
This is one guy I've been wanting to put in here for a while, but I have been waiting for him to do something worthwhile to get in here. An eccentric character with a theme befitting of his name, Jazzy Lahoria is just one of the best of the Indian acts on Ring Ka King so far. He sold his chair shot from Jeff Jarrett like a pro and bladed, despite seemingly having no wrestling background. He showed charisma in his segment where Jarrett was trying to force him to sign the contract to hand over Ring Ka King. Never have a clue what he is saying, but that doesn't matter.

Tyson Kidd
Tyson continues to be one of my favourite in-ring workers each week and a pretty good match with Michael McGillicutty on NXT helped him stay in the S20 for a second week.
16

Big Show
A really good match with Mark Henry and a typical Big Show promo against Cody Rhodes sees the Giant re-enter this distinguished ranking system.

Sheamus
Sheamus continues on his path of destruction towards WrestleMania. Now with Orton locked in a feud with Kane, it seems certain he will go one on one with Daniel Bryan for the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania now. He cut an alright babyface promo about how he hates bullies on Smackdown then had a good match with Ziggler to follow up. Now is the time to start creating tension between Sheamus and Bryan, however.
14
new

Cody Rhodes
Cody is back on the list for his promo against Big Show (we haven't seen a long Cody Rhodes promo for a while) and his "embarrassing moments" videos. A match between the two for the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania should be fun with an intriguiding build-up between the two.
13
new

The Rock
As poor as The Rock was on Raw this week, he deserves his spot on the list just for the attention he grabs when he turns up. John Cena completely destroyed him in a fraction of the time it took Rock to try and make stupid catch-phrases trend on Twitter, but more on him later...

Deadly Danda
Like Jazzy Lahoria, Deadly Danda is a guy I've been waiting to put in the list - and this week he finally gave me that oppurtunity to do so by turning heel. An awesome, Russo-esque swerve that nobody saw coming. One thing Ring Ka King can do that nobody else is doing is keep viewers coming back each week with tantalising cliffhangers.

Scott Steiner
Everything Big Poppa Pump does just makes me laugh, especially so on Ring Ka King where everything seems even more absurd. The dichotomy between Steiner and the rest of the Indian wrestlers and fans is hilarious.

Johnny Curtis
Wanna get weird? I have no idea why Johnny Curtis is not on the main roster. After the addition of the toothpick last week, Curtis started rubbing body lotion on himself while providing guest commentary during Kaitlyn vs. Maxine. How is that not enough to gain a call up to Raw or Smackdown?

Eve
The Hoeski is the most over diva in WWE right now. Her new attitude and demeanor makes me laugh and it's about time that WWE divas got storylines and characters of their own. Even Natalya farts now.

David Otunga
Otunga is quietly building himself up a streak on the Super 20, coming in for a fourth week in a row now. His pairing with Laurinaitis is just gold right now and almost everything he says elicits laughter. Great writing with great delivery. I'd love to see more matches with him as well after he dominated Ezekiel Jackson last week.

Bully Ray
What more can I say about Calfzilla that I haven't already said? 10 weeks and still going strong, Bully Ray still continues to grab your attention even when Impact is in a dull period (no Vince Russo). Funniest moment of the week in all of wrestling when Bully Ray told that old catering woman "You get uglier every time I see you" - I'm laughing even typing it.

Magnus
Congratulations to Magnus for his first ever World Heavyweight Title win, and just because its the Ring Ka King title doesn't detract from the moment.  Magnus. or Sir Brutus Magnus as he is known in India, is a shining beacon of hope for the future of wrasslin'

Chris Jericho
Jericho is back and after 8 weeks or so of terrible, unfocused build-up, we finally get to the meat of the Jericho-Punk feud with an awesome show-opening promo between the two. But despite how great Jericho was in this..

CM Punk
..CM Punk edged him slightly with his performance. They turned a dull feud into an epic one in the space of 20 minutes. Great line from Punk: "While I was swimming with sharks, you were dancing with stars". As an aside - no more CM Punk-Bryan matches please. They started off good, but with each one it gets worse and worse.

John Laurinaitis
Mr. Excitement is always going to find himself round about this place if he carries on just doing what he does. Booking Kane vs. Aksana for next week's Smackdown was priceless..

Jeff Jarrett
The Boss has finally arrived in Ring Ka King and he was even better and funnier than I expected. Jarrett has been sorely missed in TNA and it was great to see him back on top, doing what he does best - being a cowardly, bullying heel.

John Cena
Despite Rock lambasting him for 20 minutes and having the ability to draw the most stupid and obnoxious chants out of the audience whenever he wants, Cena still came out on top in the war of words last Monday. Fruity Pebbles, Missing Balls and Kung Pao Bitch (whatever that means) all fell dramatically when Cena pointed out Rocky's "tattoo" on his wrist. I don't know if this beef is a shoot or a work, but I am enjoying it either way. And congrats to Cena for being the first person to win consecutive #1 spots at the top of this esteemed ranking system.

Top 5 babyfaces who should turn heel

5. Alex Riley
When A-Ry was heeling it on NXT and his early days on Raw he was one of the highlights of the show and regularly outshone the world champion of the time himself, his own sidekick The Miz. As Miz's "events co-ordinator" we all fondly remember him walking around backstage in a suit with a bluetooth headset on barking orders. The guy looked like a legit star of the future and maybe that was the plan a year ago, but after sandbagging on a Jack Swagger gutwrench powerbomb on Raw, he has rarely been seen on either of the main shows. Riley still gets a pop when his music hits on NXT these days which shows people still remember him for the good times and though his face turn looked like it would be successful at first, it dwindled out into him becoming a generic catchphrase spouting, fans-hands-tagging babyface - a lame catchphrase based on his own theme tune: "Well, you can say it to my face!" Definitely needs to change things up.

4. Jerry Lawler
I have been re-watching old WrestleManias the past few weeks in the build up to this year's event and one of the thing that stands out most to me is how much more energy Jerry Lawler had back in those days. I don't even think it is just a case of him being more youthful, but the fact Lawler was always naturally a heel and played that part so well. The problem is that now Cole is a heel, it would be impossible to have Lawler as a heel too - unless they drafted King to Smackdown alongside Josh Matthews and kept Cole on Raw with Booker T. In fact, this would be great just to get Booker T on Raw.

3. Mr. Anderson
When Mr. Anderson eventually returns to TNA, the first thing we should hear will likely be "Misteeeeeeeeeeeeerrrr.." to a big pop. Of course, I and many others will be excited, but that moment would quickly pass and again the old Anderson will come back. Instead he should turn heel, completely re-invent his act and drop the self-announcing gimmick. Even drop the "Mr." part of his name and just become Ken Anderson. In the process of making himself "duller" by dropping the more flamboyant aspects of his character he would become fresher in the process.

2. Hornswoggle
An outside pick, but can you imagine Hornswoggle doing the heel 101 - donning an expensive suit and coming out criticising the fans for holding him down as a leprechaun? It would be awesome to see Hornswoggle bring the Cruiserweight Title out of extinction (as he was the last holder of the belt) and turn into a cowardly heel who keeps hold of the belt against all odds. It is hard to think of many things that would be funnier.

1. John Cena
Don't get me wrong, I love John Cena. I think his character is great and he is still "the man" despite CM Punk's claim to be, but to continue on while getting the amount of boos he gets every week without addressing it is ridiculous. The problem has been there for about five years and has never gone away. People say a Cena heel turn would be impossible and they would never do it because of merchandise sales, when infact it would be the easiest thing to do. All Cena has to do to turn heel is keep playing himself, but acknowledge the boos and "embrace" them, as Kane tried to make him do. Of course, WWE themselves are beginning to acknowledge the boos after years of ignoring them which shows a heel turn may be in the works. The whole angle with The Rock is definitely going to be leading up to something significant in the future as far as Cena's character is concerned, but what will it be? April 1st likely holds the answer for that.
