Super 20 for 3rd week of 2012
20
new |
| AJ Styles
No match at Genesis or even on Impact, but his promo against Kazarian was one of his best in a while. Throwing the microphone at his back was funny and unique. |
19
-1 | | Madison Rayne
Hoisted in a cage above the ring at Genesis was hilarious, as was her attempt to suck up to Sting backstage at Impact. |
18
-6 | | John Cena
Until this angle with Kane plays out a bit more, Cena's act is nothing new or special. But the time will come and surely Cena will rise back up the prestigious Super 20. |
17
-12 | | Cody Rhodes
A funny promo and a short match from Cody, but after a few weeks in the fave five he falls down, only due to the fact he got barely any time this week. |
16
-10 | | Hunico
Hunico continues to show how unique he is compared to most of the guys on the WWE roster. His stint on commentary was hilarious this week, particularly when trying to get "a closer look" at Booker's gold ring. |
15
-5 | | Sting
Sting was his usual hilarious self on Impact, shining in various segments in his "General Menace" role. Babyface GM's tend to annoy me, but Sting plays his role perfectly and is a likeable character. |
14
-12 | | Mark Henry
Only a short promo from Mark Henry this week, but as always his presence loomed over Smackdown. Calling the hilariously bad Daniel Bryan "Tiny Tim" was enough to stop him from falling further after his stunning week on guest commentary. |
13
new | | Abyss
A stunning monster's ball match at Genesis sees Abyss enter the Super 20 for the first time in its proud history, despite The Monster not being featured on Impact. |
12
-4 | | John Laurinaitis
"I'm not Little Jimmy.. I'm Big Johnny" |
11
new | | Teddy Long
I lost count of how many hilarious Teddy Long segments there were on Smackdown this week, but dancing to Brodus Clay's theme tune with his trademark moves had to be the highlight. |
10
new | | Brodus Clay |
9
new | | Big Show
Big Show continues to impress me as one of the best actors in wrestling I have ever seen. How many "real" actors could pull off crying like he did on Smackdown when he knocked down AJ? There was a time when I groaned for Big Show matches, but his work is better than ever right now and his matches are usually some of the most enjoyable each week. |
8
+8 | | Kurt Angle
A decent match on Genesis followed up by a great match on Impact. Kudos to Angle for putting over yet another young TNA guy in James Storm. |
7
new | | Jeff Hardy
Like Angle above, a decent match at Genesis followed up by a great match on Impact. His promo at the PPV was cringeworthy, but his in-ring work seems better than ever. I almost thought he had won the title until Bully Ray ended the match. |
6
new | | Robert Roode
For the third entry in a row, a decent match at Genesis followed up by a great match on Impact. His promos continue to lack and his suit looks cheap, but his mannerisms in the ring and holding the belt are great. Bully Ray is a big help in helping him get over as a legit champion. |
5
+2 | | Kane
An awesome promo from Kane this week and I love that face hold thing he keeps doing to Cena. Hopefully that will become a new finisher for the Devil's Favourite Demon. |
4
-3 | | Chris Jericho
Not number 1 this week, but only due to a solid week for TNA. Still WWE's number 1, however, and remains in the Fave Five after another mysterious "promo" in where he broke down into fake tears. Not as real-looking as Big Show's, but I guess that was the point! |
3
+1 | | Gunner
This continues to be the best move in wrestling:
|
2
+13 | | James Storm
Like my article said this week, James Storm can be the lead face of TNA. Hopefully that is the company's goal now that he is the number 1 contender. A long-awaited feud with Robert Roode should be great, but Storm needs to come out as the victor. His matches with Kurt Angle this week were great and he keeps proving himself as an entertaining wrestler as well as a brilliant promo guy. |
1
+10 | | Bully Ray
Quite simply the best asset TNA have right now. His match with Abyss was fantastic - not just for the gore, but the psychology and comedy of the match. The after-match angle and backstage clips showed how great Ray is on the mic and how comfortable he is as the Bully. The follow-up on Impact was just as good too, boasting about trending world-wide on Twitter - especially funny if you recall how he lambasted the younger guys for being Twitter nerds and that real wrestlers don't use Twitter. When James Storm inevitably comes world champion within the next few months, a feud with Bully Ray has to be on the cards - he deserves as much as a world title feud, if not a run. |
